The oil painting “Blowing in the Wind” is one of 21 works in Barbara White Perry’s exhibition “What is a Garden?” The show opens with a reception on Friday, June 1, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at The General Joseph Hooker House Gallery.
Each painting is accompanied by the quote about gardens that inspired it. The theme emerged, Perry said, as she asked people about gardens. “One thing I learned is that everyone loves gardens, but no two people see them in the same way,” she said. “We may look at our garden dozens of times a day without taking much notice of what is really there. Then, a fleeting moment of sunlight reveals the wonderful contrast of light and shade.” The (unattributed) quote for this painting was: “I’m crazy for Sunflowers – sunflowers everywhere! I have a sunflower hat!” It may not be clear what the connection is, Perry said, “but I hope this will cause you to look at your garden in a new light.”
The museum gallery is located in El Paseo de Sonoma Courtyard, 414 First St. E.
