Dragon soccer squads receive All-League honors

A total of 23 Sonoma Valley High school soccer players received All-Sonoma County League recognition for the fall 2008 season, announced last week.
Coach Pedro Merino’s boys squad, which fell 2-1 to Marin Catholic in the opening round of the NCS playoffs, had 15 members of the squad receive All-League accolades. Four players received First-Team honors, while seven Dragons were named to the second team and four more received honorable mention.
First team: Seniors Matt Linder (midfielder), Ricardo Flores (forward) Thomas Hawing(defender); junior Joe Alexander-Short (midfielder).
Second team: Seniors Robby Lind, (defender), Roberto Vargas (forward), William Stephens (goalie), Marcos Sanchez (midfielder); juniors Dylan Howarth (defender), Brian Clementino (midfielder); sophomore Victor Robles (defender).
Honorable mention: Seniors Sam Wallace (midfielder), Troy McArdle, (forward), Raul Ramirez (midfielder); junior Alejandro Parra (midfielder).
Girls head coach Pamela Wiley will have a host of honorees returning to next year’s squad as seven of the eight 2008 All-League honorees were underclassmen.
First team: Senior Elaine Stanfield (midfielder); junior Ellen Everidge (forward); sophomore Ellie Ceja, (midfielder).
Second team: Junior Samantha Lind (defender); Freshman Annie Studdert (midfielder).
Honorable mention: Juniors Karina Davis (forward), Tori Dwyer (defender); Freshman Leslie Bustos (forward).
