Animal House comes to the Sebastiani Theatre on Monday, but ‘Deathmobile,’ used for frat-house revenge in the infamous parade scene at the movie’s end, is already here. Not since the Delta crew visited the all-girl’s school has there been such a road trip.
The rig will be on the plaza in front of the theater this Saturday (9/7) and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m and Monday, 1 to 9 p.m. The movie screens that night at 7:30 p.m.
While the car — there’s a 1966 Lincoln Continental under there — is on view, the theater foundation will sell $20 raffle tickets. Grand prize a cruise around town in the Deathmobile.
In the movie, the Deathmobile was welded together in the Delta House garage. The real one (actually, there were three) was designed and built with assistance from famed Hollywood car customizer George Barris, who’s resume includes the original Batmobile and the Beverly Hillbillies jalopy. Bonus fun fact: it was driven in the movie by legendary stuntman Bud Ekins, of Bullit and The Great Escape fame.
The theater thanks Jim Reed of Clarke-Garvey Insurance Services in Costa Mesa, or graciously lending the ca, along with Al’s Towing and Transporting of Novato for hauling the it from Costa Mesa and back.
Be still, my heart.
