The author who ‘Redefines Aging’ makes Sonoma appearance

People are living longer than ever, geriatrician Louise Aronson observed, but somehow old age is seen as a disease, a condition to be dreaded, denigrated, and denied. She confronts those perceptions in Redefining Aging, Transforming Medicine, Reimagining Life, a book best-seller that explores the reality that “most people alive today will spend more years in elderhood than in childhood, many for 40 years or more.”

Aronson, a professor of medicine at UCSF, kicks off the Active Aging lecture series with a September 20 talk at Vintage House. The 1:30 p.m. event is free.

In addition to a distinguished career in medicine, Arnonson is a well-reviewed writer of articles and books on healthy aging. “I realized that the most important stories, and the ones that made my work so meaningful and fulfilling, were the ones I heard in my office: the stories of real people of all ages.”

Additional upcoming Active Aging lectures, presented by Sonoma Valley Hospital:

Leslie Lovejoy, RN, PhD, will discuss the importance of building and nurturing our own resilience and how best to navigate unplanned changes in our life as part of the Active Aging series at Vintage House, Friday, September 27, 1:30 pm.  RSVP: 707.996.0311

Marek Grzybowski, MS, PT, will discuss the importance of remaining physically active as we age and why we need to change-up our routines as our bodies change as part of the Active Aging series at Vintage House, Friday, October 4, 1:30 pm.  RSVP: 707.996.0311

Vintage House is located at 264 First Street East, Sonoma.
