Here’s the beef!

What happened to all the Ox Roast meat? Here’s the story.

Tom Geney, at right, Meat Manager at Sonoma’s Broadway Market trimmed, prepped and packaged all 1,200 pounds of choice round beef left unused when Sonoma Community Center’s Ox Roast was cancelled. Owners of Maya Restaurant, located on the Sonoma Plaza, bought the beef and plans on running menu specials for the next few weeks, or until the meat is gone.

Also pictured are Maria Arjona of Maya Restaurant and Alfred Robles, Broadway Market manager.

Events Manager Toni Castone said the Center is touched by the generosity of these two local businesses and grateful to recoup some of the losses incurred when the event was washed out.

Plans for an “Ox Roast” make-up event are underway, and the event is expected to be held on September 11, 2011.
