Suspected burglar foiled by drapes, cops

A bungled home burglary, in which the suspect got tangled in the drapes before being pushed out a sliding glass door by the victimized Springs homeowner, ended with the arrest early Sunday morning of Toby Jordan Kiser, 18, of Sonoma.

Kiser dropped his phone during the 2:30 a.m. altercation on Toy Lane. It was found on the ground, playing music. Deputies searched the area, but did not immediately find Kiser.

At about 5 a.m. Deputies were alerted to another burglary in-progress, at a residence on nearby El Nino Court.

The victim there reported that an unknown male was attempting to open the rear sliding door. When Deputies arrived they found an adult male standing in the backyard near a rear door. They detained the man, who matched the description of the suspect from the Toy Lane burglary.

The homeowner explained that he was asleep when he heard someone trying to open the sliding glass door to his bedroom. He armed himself with a baseball bat and yelled at the suspect repeatedly that he was on the phone with the police.

The Deputies arrived before the suspect entered the house. They also confirmed that the phone recovered from outside the Toy Lane house was Kiser’s.

Kiser was arrested and booked into County Jail for burglary of an inhabited dwelling and attempted burglary. His bail was set at $80,000 and he is due in court on February 10.
