As expected, traffic will get rather messy near Sonoma Raceway in lieu of this weekend’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR race. Here’s your guide on how the traffic will go down this weekend.

Fun fact: 85% of the people who pass by Sonoma Raceway on a race weekend are not attending the race.

Avoid the area unless you absolutely can’t: The two lane highways of 37 and 121 will be a hot mess for the duration of the weekend. If you want to avoid the stress, go through Petaluma or Napa to get south out of the Valley. Or just don’t leave Sonoma Valley, right?

Cops will be out in full force not only directing traffic but making sure people don’t drive like idiots. So, don’t be one of those people, ok?

  • Friday
    • Traffic will be at its worst from 3PM-7PM, given the mix of fans leaving the track after practice and evening commuters.
  • Saturday
    • Qualifications take place and traffic will be “moderate” to and from the track. It shouldn’t be as bad as Friday or the following day, but expect minor delays near track entrances.
  • Sunday – RACE DAY
    • To be blunt: Avoid this area all day if you aren’t attending the race.
    • Gates open at 7 AM with the race starting at noon. Fans will arrival will be at its height between 8AM-10AM and people will leave the track around 5 PM.

Are you attending the race? You can avoid driving in by taking the free bus that picks up and drops off from the Sonoma Valley Visitor’s Bureau on the Square and at Cornerstone. Learn more here.
