The Springs Highway 12 project has achieved a few important milestones as work continues with the fingers-crossed completion goal of early 2016.
All planned utility relocation has been completed – an intricate process involving 41 separate utility lines and three high-pressure gas mains. With that deep-dig work done, curb and gutter has been poured in the northerly portion of the project, and the retaining walls are in progress from Bernhard Avenue to Waterman Avenue.
Upcoming activities: work on the new box culvert that will allow for road widening and shoulder improvements above the creek on Highway 12. Storm drains and storm water crossings (culverts) will require some night work at Sunnyside Road and Valletti Road. This work is expected to take two nights, and is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, August 20 and 21.
The work will include removing existing storm drains and replacing the pipe. Look for signs this week for more details on nighttime lane closures. “It is so exciting to see the progress being made along the highway 12 corridor,” said Supervisor Susan Gorin. “I know it is an enormous disruption to the community, yet people continue to be both patience and supportive — a true testament to the character of the Springs.”
