Tweens and teens, including 16-year-old Jenna Ebert (center), play all the roles in “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” a Teens ‘N Training musical presented by Sonoma Arts Live. The Tony-winning musical, directed by Libby Oberlin, follows a group of six-graders – a pubescent gamut of shy, goofy, confident, hyper-allergic and just plain nerdy – through the rigors of a spelling competition.
The actors are earnest and adorable, and the songs (including “My Friend the Dictionary,” “I Speak Six Languages” and “My Unfortunate Erection/Distraction) add some witty Broadway punch.
