Delay in vaccine shipments cause clinic delays, schedule changes

Posted on February 23, 2021 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Both Sonoma Valley COVID-19 vaccination sites were among those forced to cancel service due to weather-related delays in vaccine delivery, but the shipments are back on track and the schedule has been upated.

Open self-register clinics will continue to be posted at www.sonomavalleyhospital.org/svhp. To receive information by email for clinics in Sonoma Valley, please subscribe at www.sonomavalleyhosptial.org/subscribe .

“It was a major disappointment for all of us to have to cancel Sunday’s (February 21) first-dose clinic,” said Sonoma Valley Hospital’s Celia de La Kruse. “Although we tried to reach everyone registered for the clinic through email notifications, phone calls, and social media posts, we were not able to reach all and we apologize to those who turned up Sunday to the closed clinic site.”

Sonoma Valley Health Partners, the County’s consortium in charge of the vaccination effort, has received the delayed shipment of the Moderna vaccine. In order to re-schedule the affected vaccinations, the following schedule changes have been made:

There will be two separate drive-through clinics held this coming weekend.  Saturday is for FIRST dose Moderna only and Sunday is for SECOND dose Pfizer only.  If you have questions about the following schedule changes, please contact [email protected]

  • If you were scheduled to receive your FIRST dose Moderna vaccination on Sunday, February 21, you are now rescheduled for Saturday, February 27. Your registration will automatically be transferred to the new date at the same time. You do not need to do anything and you may have already received an email confirming the change.
  • If you were scheduled for the SECOND Pfizer clinic planned for Saturday, February 27, we have rescheduled your appointment to Sunday, February 28. Your registration will automatically be transferred to the new date at the same time. You do not need to do anything and you may have already received an email confirming the change. If you were previously scheduled to receive your second dose of the Pfizer vaccine on Saturday 2/27/2021 (first dose administered 2/6), please do NOT show up at the High School on Saturday, 2/27 – you will be turned away and asked to return on Sunday, 2/28.
  • If you did not receive an email notification regarding these changes, please contact us at [email protected]

As the federal and state roll-out of the vaccine begins to stabilize, volumes and availability  continues to grow, and eligibility criteria expands, those seeking their first dose are directed to to sign-up and register with MyTurn www.myturn.ca.gov

Through MyTurn those eligible can schedule an appointment when available. If it’s not your turn yet or appointments are not available, you will be registered to be notified when they are.  Retail pharmacy sites, such as CVS (https://www.cvs.com/immunizations/covid-19-vaccine) will continue to provide vaccines and larger mass vaccine sites such as the Oakland Coliseum will also continue to be an option.
