Having served on the board for over 15 years (longest serving board member in the history of the Sonoma Valley Unified School District), and having seen more than my fair share of a changing of the guards in Superintendent leadership, I can safely say that another change at this point would do more harm than good.
In addition to this change, with scenarios that were presented for the consolidation of schools, etc., this time, more than ever, changing leadership would be another huge disruption. (Even with someone familiar with the district, this position is not the same, and would still require getting up to speed, learning how to be the superintendent for this district, etc., etc.)
Elizabeth Kaufman has been in this leadership role now for this past year, and before that as Associate Superintendent, thus giving her multiple years in this level of leading our district and knowing our staff and families. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
Please do not change the leadership now, at this point, wait another year or two before considering this. Keep our district stable without yet another change.
