Cozy up with a good book and join Sonoma County Library’s Winter Reading and Mock Caldecott programs.
The Winter Reading Challenge involves completing reading activities to win a limited-edition pop-it flyer or an insulated lunch bag. Those who complete 16 activities will also be entered into the grand prize drawing for a Nintendo Switch.
And in the eighth annual Mock Caldecott, don’t forget to vote for the best illustrated children’s books of the year. (The Caldecott is a national book award).
The Winter Reading Challenge runs from December 1 through January 12.
“Winter is the perfect time to stay inside and join a reading challenge,” said Sonoma County Library Deputy Director Dara Bradds.
Sign up at Sonomalibrary.beanstack.org or in the Beanstack app. Paper logs are available at your local library, or download and print from home at Sonomalibrary.org/Winter.
Also starting December 1, picture book lovers are invited to visit Sonomalibrary.org/Mockcaldecott to vote for your favorite illustrated books published in the last year. The real Caldecott Medal is one of the most prestigious awards in children’s literature, and the library’s Mock Caldecott allows you to help choose Sonoma County’s favorite picture book of 2023.
Sonoma County Library staff has selected nine books to vote on. You can find copies of these books at your local branch or hear them read aloud via the Beanstack platform. Vote for your favorites—either online at Sonomalibrary.beanstack.org or at the library. Voting will be open from December 1 through January 15. Winners will be announced on Monday, January 22.
The Sonoma Valley branch is located at 755 W. Napa St.
