What’s going on with Sonoma streets?

A street-improvement project that has led to minor backups and delays on portions of five Sonoma streets enters its next phase on Saturday, June 20. Crews will begin preparing for permanent striping that will be applied to roads that were worked on over the last two days.

The official name of the street repair job is ‘slurry seal,’ as crews apply a seal to extend the life of the pavement and prevent potholes. With that done, the now-black fresh topping will be repainted with lane and parking markings.

That phase begins at 8 am on 5th Street West between Napa Street and Andrieux Street; proceed to Andrieux Street between 2nd Street West and 3rd Street West; and finish on East Napa Street between 2nd Street East and 8th Street East.

One lane will be open to traffic at all times.

The total cost of the job, about $250,000, comes entirely from state funds.
