July 14th: summer’s half over, if you’re the pessimistic sort. For the optimists among us, we’ve still got half a summer’s fun yet ahead. What to do in Slownoma? Certain locals gripe that there’s far too little, while others can’t seem to fit it all in (see categories of temperament above). A cursory glance at the Sonoma Valley Sun’s ginormous collection of events and activities on the SonomaNow link reveals a depth and breadth of choice that should satisfy even the grumbliest curmudgeon.
On this day in history, right here in our sleepy little town you can: edify yourself with knitting classes at Sonoma Yarn, stargaze at Ferguson Observatory, or train a new babysitter through the Red Cross. Get artsy at the Community Center’s Open Studio session, go jazzy at The Lodge, or decode the meaning of Bert Kaplan’s big canvases at Charles Creek Vineyards. Shake your tail to spicy Latin music at Valley of the Moon Winery, or get funky with Dave Martin’s House Party Band at the Red and White Ball in the Plaza. And if all that fun leaves you feeling bloated or just slightly out of control, you can run a 5K at the Developmental Center or reclaim your center at the Yoga Community Studio’s weekend retreat. And that’s just for today. Whew. Carpe your diem and get out there, friend.
