The City of Sonoma has just announced its newest hire.
Following a competitive recruitment process, the City of Sonoma (City) proudly welcomes Prapti Aryal as its new Finance Director. Prapti brings over eight years of progressive experience in municipal finance to her new role, where she will oversee the Department of Finance and play a pivotal role in the City’s economic management.
Prapti’s extensive experience includes her most recent position as Finance Director at the City of Clayton, where she managed an $8 million budget for operating and capital expenditures. She has demonstrated strong leadership skills in financial planning, budget management, regulatory compliance, and team development.
In her new role, Prapti will be responsible for preparing and managing the City’s budget of approximately $43 million, overseeing three accounting staff members, and collaborating closely with City management, Council Members, department heads, and consultants. Her expertise in strategic financial management and her commitment to public sector fiscal stewardship make her an ideal candidate for this important position.
“We are delighted to welcome Prapti to the City of Sonoma as our new Finance Director,” said City Manager David Guhin. “Her wealth of experience and proven track record of leadership in municipal finance will be invaluable as we continue to pursue our economic goals and serve our community. We are confident that she will make significant contributions to the City’s financial management and long-term sustainability.”
Prapti holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Metropolitan State University, Minneapolis, MN, and possesses a strong foundation in financial principles and regulatory compliance. She is eager to leverage her expertise in financial management and strategic planning to serve as a key member of the City’s Management Team. Prapti will officially start in her new role on May 13th at an annual salary of $181,909.
“I am honored to join the City of Sonoma as Finance Director and contribute to its continued prosperity,” said Prapti. “I am excited about the opportunity to work with the dedicated team here and help shape the City’s financial future. Together, we will strive to ensure fiscal transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency to support Sonoma’s economic goals and community welfare.”
Prapti resides in Fairfield with her family, including her husband, two daughters aged 11 and 7, and their “fur-babies,” Mochi and Donut. In her leisure time, she finds joy in discovering new destinations alongside her family and hosting gatherings with friends.
