Halloween isn’t until next week, so there’s still time to find a costume, attend seasonal festivities and find the perfect pumpkin.
The Dragon’s Head Inn has been a tradition for 15 years, but the usual site of this special haunted house has changed. It will be open Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26-27, from 7 to 10 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 28 from 7 to 9 p.m., and Halloween, Wed., Oct. 31, from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission is free but donations are requested. The Dragon’s Head Inn is at 230 Perkins St. (off Second St. E. behind Longs Drugs).
Visit any of several local pumpkin farms to find the perfect size and shape for carving, eating or just decorating your digs.
• Adobe Pumpkin Farm, 2478 E. Washington St. at Adobe Rd. Petaluma. Hours: Daily, 10 a.m. to sundown. 707.763.6416
• Field of Greens Pumpkin Patch, 1777 Watmaugh Rd., Sonoma. Pick pumpkins right off the vine, gourds too. Pet sheep, hay mazes. Groups welcome. Hours: 2 to 5 p.m. Mon.-Fri., 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sat.-Sun. through Oct. 31. More information: www.myfieldofgreens.com or 707.939.3648.
• Vadasz Pumpkin Patch. Hours: 1815 Grove St. Sonoma. Each year the Vadasz family donates its pumpkin patch, which they have planted and tended themselves, to Vintage House. All of the proceeds go to Vintage House. If you would like more information, you could speak with Jackie Stubbs at Vintage House at 707.996.0311. Also, they enlist the help of boys from Hanna to pick and help arrange the pumpkins. Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sat., Oct. 27 and Sun., Oct. 28. The contact person at Hanna is Tamara at 707.996.6767.
• Oak Hill Farm – The Red Barn Store. A selection of pumpkins. Apparently some of their crop failed so they had to bring some form elsewhere. For more information, please call 707.996.6643.
• Stanly Lane Pumpkin Patch. Corner of Stanly Lane and Hwy. 121/12 (3100 Golden Gate Dr.) Napa. It’s a little drive across the county line to Napa, but this is a superior patch with a lot more than pumpkins for sale, including gourds. There’s a straw pyramid, complete with a maze, where children can play. Hours: Daily through Oct. 31. 707.253.7512.
They won’t be selling pumpkins, but you can find other foods as well as games, a cake walk, a fortune teller and more at this weekend’s Prestwood School Halloween Carnival. Show up in costume between 4 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 at 343 E. MacArthur St.
