The Sonoma Valley Chorale kicks off its 35th Anniversary Season, sponsored by the Sonoma Valley Sun, with the annual holiday concert on December 8, 2007, at 8:00 pm and December 9, 2007, at 2:00 pm at the Sonoma Veterans Memorial Building 126 1st Street West in Sonoma. Join Artistic Director, James Griewe, Choral Conductor, David Irvine, Chief Accompanist, Jo Anne Connor, Associate Accompanist, Barbara McElroy and the acclaimed chorus for “A Classic Christmas”, an uplifting and exciting concert of traditional holiday music – sure to infuse you with the Christmas spirit.
Artistic Director, Jim Griewe and Chorale Conductor, David Irvine have selected a wide range of music to celebrate the holiday season and illustrate the many moods of Christmas. Classics from the “Messiah” and the “Shepherds Chorus” by Berlioz, to the pop song “Blue Christmas” will be performed. Combined with folk carols from around the world, the program brings the colorful tapestry of holiday music to vivid life.
Griewe announced this week that the December 9 matinee performance would also be a part of the International Day of Choral Singing… “SING CHOIRS OF THE WORLD!” This International Day of choral singing is an annual event initiated by the International Federation for Choral Music. It celebrates and advocates for peace across nations. A specially prepared proclamation will be read exactly at 2:15 p.m. to coordinate with other choirs performing during the same time on that special day.
