Martha Rosenblatt, an after-school reading mentor in El Verano School’s new “Reading Club,” works with first grader Fatima who is excited about learning to read.
The “Club” meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2:40 p.m. for one hour in the school library. New mentors are needed, and teachers supervise and support the mentors. As most of young students don’t get the chance to have this kind of one-on-one experience, it’s a great opportunity to make a difference at a critical time in a child’s development.
