A Rohnert Park man was arrested yesterday following an early-morning fracas among nearly a dozen young men in Boyes Hot Springs.
Paul Moreno-Gutierres, 18, was booked into Sonoma County Jail for attempted murder in furtherance of a criminal street gang, said Det. Sgt. Tim Duke, of the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department Violent Crimes Investigation Unit.
The fight, which occurred in Lucas Avenue’s 18000 block around 2 a.m., sent one teenager to the hospital with major head wounds after he was allegedly struck by a hoe.
A witness at the scene told deputies that a light colored Cadillac sedan was seen leaving the area after the incident occurred. At 2:18 a.m., a two-person California Highway Patrol unit stopped a white Cadillac sedan traveling westbound on Bennett Valley Road toward Santa Rosa. Deputies also responded to the scene, detaining the occupants for investigation by the department’s Violent Crimes and Crime Scene Unit. It was unclear at press time whether Moreno-Gutierres was one of the occupants or was arrested later.
The victim is recovering at an area hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. Anybody with information on this case is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Violent Crimes Unit at 565-2185.
