Pier to head SV Hospital Foundation

The Sonoma Valley Hospital Foundation has appointed Dave Pier as executive director.

Formerly the CEO of The Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley, Pier had stepped in to serve as the foundation’s executive after the resignation of Selma Blanusa.

“This is a wonderful opportunity and an important challenge,” said Pier, who has more than 20 years experience working with nonprofits in the Sonoma Valley. “A financially healthy hospital is vital to Sonoma. For our hospital to continue to provide the finest care, it needs financial support beyond what it receives in revenue from services alone, and our community has shown it supports its hospital.”

During his eight years as CEO of The Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley, the nonprofit became one of the largest in the area, serving more than 40 percent of Sonoma’s youth. Prior to that, he spent 12 years at Hanna Boys Center, including serving as residence manager.

“We are extremely fortunate to have someone with Dave’s experience, talents and deep understanding of our community assume this position,” said Marcia Levy, foundation board chair. “We feel that Dave will play a significant role in helping the foundation fulfill its mission of providing financial support to our hospital, enabling it to provide the best possible health care to the Sonoma Valley.”

In his new position, Pier will work closely with the SVH Foundation board to raise funds for the hospital and oversee several community programs funded by philanthropy. These include Project Pink, which funds mammograms for uninsured and underinsured women, and the new Cancer Support Sonoma program located within the hospital, which provides complementary therapies to help reduce the physical and emotional symptoms of conventional cancer treatment.

Pier holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from College of Notre Dame in Belmont, CA and a Master of Arts in counseling psychology from Sonoma State University.

A native of Sonoma County, Dave lives in Sonoma with his wife, Kristi, and their three children. Pier is active in the Sonoma Rotary Club and served on the board for four years. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees at The Presentation School. He also served on the board of the Sonoma Valley Fund, a subsidiary of the Sonoma County Community Foundation, and is a current member of the Sonoma Valley Health Roundtable.

The Sonoma Valley Hospital Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation founded in 1982. In addition to the recent capital campaign, which raised $11 million to help fund the hospital’s new wing, the SVH Foundation has raised more than $7 million from individual donors, charitable foundations and corporations to enhance medical services, equipment and programs, and to help cover the Hospital’s cost of caring for patients who could otherwise not afford to pay.
