Razor blade found in Sonoma Halloween candy

Trick is the word on the street on the day after Halloween in Sonoma and it was found in a dangerous treat.

The Sonoma Police Department has issued a statement that a razor-blade was found in a candy bar among a child’s candy. The child found the razor poking out from the package. They were not injured.

The child was given the candy while trick or treating in the northwest side of Sonoma.

The police are reporting that it is an isolated incident, but, as you continue to peruse your candy bags, be sure to check every treat. Report any dangerous discoveries or tampering you may find to the police at 996-3602 or dial 9-1-1 if it’s an emergency.

if this actually happened, it’s bad. but nationally, this is one of those fake urban legends. i hope we don’t keep this from welcoming a cherished tradition of trick or treating, and building the sense of community it brings.

A rough estimate for the number of pieces of candy passed out to children in the greater Sonoma area last weekend would be about a quarter of a million. (Do the math for yourself … that’s actually fairly realisitic believe it or not).

If only 1 in 250,000 is tampered, that’s pretty good, frankly. I’m really glad that this one particular piece of candy was discovered, but I sure hope folks don’t blow this out of proportion. Just inspect your child’s candy … it’s not that big of a deal.
