Sonoma City Manager Giovannato to retire

At last night’s meeting of the Sonoma City Council, City Manager Carol Giovannato unexpectedly announced her retirement.

“It is with great emotion that I am publicly announcing my decision to retire on 12/15/16”, Giovannato told the council and the audience members. She added that certain major events in her personal life, such as becoming a grandmother, influenced her decision. Becoming a grandmother, she said, “changed my focus 180 degrees”.

The council will need to agendize the recruitment of a new city manager and Carol will help with that process and stay until a new city manager is on board.

City Manager Carol Giovanatto was appointed City Manager in December 2011.  Prior to that Ms. Giovanatto served as Assistant City Manager and Finance Manager for the City of Sonoma for ten years.
