City Manager Mike Fuson Resigns

Sonoma City Council members acknowledged appreciation to city manager Mike Fuson after he submitted notice of his December 30, 2007 resignation at the council meeting on Wednesday. He intends to retire following his 30 years of public service in city management.
Fuson became Sonoma’s city manager in December of 2001, following city manager positions lasting 10 years in Sausalito and, most recently, six years in Pismo Beach. Fuson had earlier served 5 years as assistant city manager of Novato.
Holding master’s degrees in political science and in public administration from the University of Washington in Seattle, Fuson was hired especially for his budget expertise. In Sonoma, he help guide the city into outsourcing its police services to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department, and he facilitated the sale of the city’s old fire station property on Patten Street to itself, using city redevelopment funds.
Fuson told the council that he is obtaining a proposal from an executive search firm to help find his replacement.
