Off the walls

Classes that go behind and beyond the gallery walls will be presented this year at the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art. The year-long Calvin R. Vander Woude Lively Arts Series begins June 6 with “Sculpture: Art History and Practice.”

The five-week session will be lead by Sonoma artist and educator Martin Munson, who will examine sculptural movements in art history and introduces students to a variety of three-dimensional sculptural techniques, including wood, plaster, and wire kinetic constructions.

Classes will be held on five consecutive Thursdays, from 6 to 8 p.m., through Feb. 3. Additionally, there will be visits to the studios of Bryan Tedrick, Jim Callahan, and Gilham Erikson on alternating Saturday mornings through Feb. 5.

Class size is limited to 10 and advance registration required. The fee is $200, $185 for museum members. Registration for classes is available svma.org/classes.html.
