Follow Dr. Abbie’s newest adventure

Dear Readers: For the next five weeks I will be on an adventure. I leave tomorrow for Options for Animals, a Veterinary Chiropractor School in Wellsville, Kansas. I am trying to look beyond – beyond the cleaning, packing and last minute crazies like renewing my lease month to month because our landlord wants to put the house we just moved into last year on the market – to the Rocky Mountains and beyond to the plains of the Midwest, a place I have not yet been. Not only am I driving, but during the class I will be camping with a woman I have not yet met. It is 104 degrees in Wellsville, Kansas today.

Chiropractic has called to me since I fell from a horse at fifteen and did not find pain relief until my first treatment by a chiropractor at age 20. I knew there had to be something besides pain pills and unrelenting pain. By then, I was working on my dream of becoming a veterinarian. Treating people was never a consideration, but now, at midlife I have an opportunity to round out my veterinary skills by adding a safe, effective way to treat my patients’ pain and I’m off on another adventure to go along with it.

Instead of answering questions, Dr. Forsythe and I decided it might interest our readers to read a sort of travelogue/ blog/ musings on travel, midlife, and chiropractic for the next month or so.

Tomorrow I set off at 6 a.m. with the goal of reaching my vet school classmate, Dave Specht in Littleton, Colorado in time to sit on the back porch before dinner. Vastly more successful than me, he has just built a new hospital over the last two years.  Tomorrow night I hope to be beyond the Great Salt Lake to Rock Springs, Wyoming. Tally Ho! – Dr. Abbie
