With opening night just weeks away, the Sonoma International Film Festival will host a Casting Call for important supporting roles: event volunteers.

Several hundred volunteers are needed to greet visitors, act as ushers at screenings, work the parties and events, introduce films and provide hospitality for filmmakers, help with pre-festival production, pour beer and wine, offer technical expertise, and other important jobs. The Casting Call gathering for volunteers is February 24, 6 p.m. at Vintage House, 264 First St. E.

Each year, the Sonoma International Film Festival relies on volunteers to make this unique cultural event a success, said Ginny Krieger, the festival’s assistant director.

“Volunteering is a unique opportunity to meet new people, contribute to the making of an iconic film festival and make special memories in the process.”

Volunteers are thanked for their work with film tickets, a T-shirt and an invitation to the post-festival Volunteer Party.

New and returning volunteers are invited to attend the volunteer orientation where staff will give an overview of the festival and announce the volunteer opportunities available, at the festival, which runs March 25-29.

“As a first step, we are asking all volunteers to first go online and fill out our volunteer application, even if you are a returning volunteer or are planning to join us on February 24,” Krieger said.
