Felony conviction for Boys & Girls Clubs embezzler

The former treasurer of The Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley will pay back the $8,205 she stole from the nonprofit agency and spend 60 days in jail, District Attorney Jill Ravitch announced today.

Robyn Cabrera, 37, of Santa Rosa, pled guilty to felony embezzlement on Thursday.

Cabrera worked for the Boys and Girls Club of Sonoma for nine years, from 2005 to 2014.  In her most recent position as Director of Finance and Human Resources, she was responsible for all financial business, and had unlimited access to business credit cards and PayPal accounts.

After Cabrera resigned, a new bookkeeper noticed irregularities with past transactions and balances of a Clubs account.

An internal investigation discovered that between 2012 and 2013, while Cabrera was in charge of the cash flow, several suspicious money transfers and purchases were made to and from a Boys and Girls Club account to which only she had access.  The total of these irregular transactions was over $8,000.

Cabrera has paid restitution in full, and will serve a 60-day jail sentence.  She will then be placed on probation for a period of three years as part of a negotiated sentence.

“This defendant, through her selfish actions, deprived Boys and Girls Club children of the benefit of supplies, programs, and services worth thousands of dollars,” Ravitch said. “Hopefully her probationary period will afford her time to reflect on her illegal conduct and how it has adversely affected others.”
