Best bartender crowned
Taking top honors at Saturday night’s Sonoma Bar Battle this year and the title of “Sonoma’s Best Bartender” was Carlo Cavallo, of B&V Whiskey Bar & Grille.
In concocting their specialty cocktails, the contestants incorporated secret ingredients including Dram Black Bitters, Organic Apple Cider Fire Cider, Dandelion & Burdock Bitters and for the final round, Abbotts Bitters.
Second place went to Rossi’s, third place to Blue Moon Saloon and fourth place to Murphy’s Irish Pub.
In the Glorious Gloria Sparkling contest the winner was Dax Marchus from Hopmonk; second place went to Nathaly Gordils, with Gina Midgley of Mary’s Pizza Shack placing third.
For the second year in a row, Hop Monk Tavern took home the honors voted by the patrons of Best Fan Favorite Booth, and Blue Moon Saloon the honor of Best Fan Favorite Cocktail.
Event producer Ronda Leen sends a big thank you to event sponsors: Valley of the Moon Vintage Festival, Umpqua Bank, Price Pump, Peterson Mechanical, Whole Foods, Steiners Tavern, Uncle Val’s Handcrafted Gin, Prohibition Spirits and Beam-Suntory for providing one of our secret ingredients Pavan Liqueur. Charbay Distillery & Winery was the exclusive vodka and tequila provider.
Other secret ingredients used this year include Dram Black Bitters, Organic Apple Cider “Fire Cider”, Dandelion & Burdock Bitters and for the final round Abbotts Bitters.
“And of course we have the thank all of our participants, patrons, judges and volunteers! Without the participation, interest and hard work of dedicated volunteers this event would not happen. Thank you to all the businesses, services and companies that donated to the silent auction,” she said.
“Let’s not forget that all the proceeds from the event are split between the Native Sons of the Golden West Parlor #111 and the American Legion Jack London Post #489. These two local volunteer groups give back support to many organizations in our community, Veterans and active duty Military.”
