Looking northwest from the corner of Rancho Drive, the first of five three-story buildings of the Fetters Apartments project rises along Highway 12 in the Springs. The development by MidPen Housing will provide 19 one-bedroom, 22 two-bedroom, and 19 three-bedroom apartments, a large community room with common kitchen, an-after school program classroom; a public bike trail managed by County Regional Parks; and an improved playground to be shared with the Sonoma Charter School.

Despite encountering an unexpected layer of hardpan soil, which initially slowed construction, the project is back on track for completion by the end of the year, said MidPen’s Scott Johnson. The company will soon begin a formal outreach campaign to let the public know how to apply for one of the homes. The application process will open in April. Prior to that there is no waiting list, but to get on the ‘interest list’ to receive updates and news of public meetings, call 855.278.7669. Individuals and families earning up to 60 percent of Area Media Income, which is $53,580 for a five-person household, are eligible.
