Best Night Ever, streaming
When the show must go on, it goes online.
Transcendence Theatre Company opens its 2020 season with the streaming showcase Don’t Stop Believin, July 17-19, on the TTC website through the online platform Vimeo.
The 2020 virtual season, titled Best Night Ever Online, is a compilation of the best performances from Transcendence’s last eight years of show footage, featuring hundreds of Broadway and musical theater artists in high-quality, never-before-seen footage.
Shows are free (donations encouraged), with a pre-show interview at 7 pm (1:30 pm for matinees), and the virtual curtain 30 minutes later.
The company known for its Broadway Under the Stars summer series at Jack London State was forced by Covid-19 rules to cancel the live season. Instead, it will stream shows on selected dates through September 13.
“We are very fortunate to have over a decade of shows preserved on video,” said Artistic Director, Amy Miller. To curate the show, her staff sorted through over 1,000 songs from previous seasons.
“By using some of the most powerful, poignant, unique, fun, and mesmerizing performances, we built a show that we hope will inspire, uplift, and energize our audiences during this difficult time”, Miller said.
The set list includes some of the company’s most memorable moments, with songs from Broadway shows including West Side Story; Guys and Dolls; Ragtime; Phantom of the Opera; All That Jazz; Rock of Ages, and many more.
The evening is as well choreographed as one of the dance numbers, with pre-show interviews, and Best Night Ever food options.
The Transcendence creative staff has designed new pre-show entertainment featuring interviews with Broadway Artists, on Transcendence’s history, sponsors, and community education and engagement programs. Hosted by Meggie Cansler Ness (Wicked, Apple Tree, Finian’s Rainbow) and Tony Gonzalez (Mamma Mia).
To Best Night Ever Online experience, Transcendence has teamed up with several Sonoma County food vendors and wineries who will be offering special menus for each show, and promo codes for selected wineries for delivery and pick-up. See the list.
