Sonoma Arts Live scores nine theater award nominations

Sonoma Arts Live received nine Marquee Theater Journalists Awards nominations for its 2019-20 season. The honor,  is a big deal on the regional theater scene.  

The MTJA was founded in 2015 by Sonoma County-based theater journalists to acknowledge outstanding work done by the local theater community. Their nominations in 18 categories covered 35 productions in the seasonal year. And the SAL nominees are:

Outstanding Choreography

Lisa Ferreira – Merman’s Apprentice

Michella Snider –  A Christmas Story (tap sequence)

Outstanding Musical Direction

Sherrill Peterson – Daddy Long Legs

Outstanding Musical Production

Daddy Long Legs – Directed by Michael Ross

Merman’s Apprentice– Directed by Jaime Love & Larry Williams

Outstanding Lead Performance in a Musical

Daniela Innocenti Beem – Merman’s Apprentice

Madison Genovese – Daddy Long Legs

Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Musical

Schary Pearl Fugitt – A Christmas Story

Outstanding Poster/Program Design

Daddy Long Legs – Design by Sue Martin with Moira McGovern

From the Sonoma Arts Live production of Merman’s Apprentice

Current members MTJA members include the North Bay Bohemian’s Harry Duke, Sonoma County Gazette’s Jeanie K. Smith, and Aisle Seat Review’s Nicole Singley and Barry Willis. All are also members of the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle as well as the American Theatre Critics Association.

  1. Two corrections: The date to announce this year’s award recipients is still to be determined. (not October 14)

    There were 35 (not 68) productions in this truncated theatre season.
