Readying to reopen
Charmian London is moving back to her House of Happy Walls.
Now a museum at Jack London State Park, the house was emptied in September of its displays and historic treasures. All the artifacts and mementos of life with her adventurous husband, packed in boxes and shipped to Sacramento for safe storage.
It took three days for a team from California State Parks to remove the priceless artifacts, even longer to reinstall everything last month when Covid indicators began to improve. Now everything is back in place for a March 17 reopen.
“The museum has never looked better and we are looking forward to safely welcoming visitors back to explore both the history and natural beauty of our beautiful state park,” said Matt Leffert, executive director of the park. “The museum was completely renovated and refreshed in 2018 so some returning visitors may feel like it’s a whole new experience.”
The museum is open from noon to 4 p.m. The park itself is open daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. There is a $10 per-vehicle fee for standard cars.

Wonderful. I never tire of visiting Jack London State Park. It is beautiful and peaceful and historic. Jack London was the quintessential Californian and American original. He like Frank Sinatra did it his way. California owes much to the dreamers and creative people who have come from all over the world to find their El Dorado.
