Open letter from departing SVHS principal

As has been shared by the district, I am moving on next year to become the Principal at my alma mater, Petaluma High School.
It was an incredibly difficult decision for me to leave after one year, made even more difficult because of the incredible students I have been fortunate enough to get to know throughout the year. I couldn’t be more impressed with the caliber of our students, the caring and committed staff, and the passion of the community for SVHS.
My experience at Sonoma led me to recognize my desire to serve my home community. When multiple positions opened in Petaluma, and after reflecting on my personal and professional goals, I felt I could not pass on the opportunity.
I want to thank Sonoma for all you have done for me and for all you do for the school and district each year. I am grateful for the year I was able to spend as Principal of Sonoma Valley High and know the school will continue on the positive path which has been undertaken.
As was already detailed in the district communication, we are seeking students, parents, and community leaders from various groups associated with SVHS to participate in the Principal selection process to either paper screen applications or serve on an interview panel. I will be reaching out to individuals and stakeholder groups for participants in the process. If you are interested, please contact me directly at jmori@sonomaschools.org.
Thank you.
